Instructional Coaching Based on Student Needs and Teacher Goals

Because the classroom teacher has the greatest impact on student results, focus must be honed in on the instructional core of the school The team at Julie White Consulting offers instructional coaching based on the needs of the teacher. We are knowledgeable in the domains of the T-Tess and assess a teacher’s delivery of lessons to make needed recommendations that will improve teacher practice. This includes coaching around making instructional moves using data-driven decisions. This coaching cycle is comprised of observation, mentoring, lesson-modeling and the delivery of actionable feedback that will improve teacher performance immediately. 

 

Intervention

Instructional interventions are more than just strategies a teacher uses in the classroom- they are tailored to each individual student’s needs. Response to intervention is one of the greatest indicators of how quickly and effectively identified gaps will be closed. For this reason, we believe that knowing how to read identified data is the first step in planning for effective intervention. This data is then used to plan for strategic interventions in the classroom so that remedy can be implemented and then tracked. Many schools know how to assess their students, but are not well-versed in what to do with the data. 

Julie White Consulting and its staff are trained educators in breaking down important data to formulate a plan to help improve student achievement. Let our staff help your school to first identify and collect the data sets to be measured. We then assist to analyze this data in order to develop fully informed next steps so that decisions are no longer based on incomplete or subjective information. Data breakdown can help both teachers and administrators answer important questions such as, “Which students need the most support?”, “Is this curriculum effective?” “Which students are mastering reading/math standards and why?”. Model Teaching

One of the greatest challenges new and seasoned teachers face is the classroom implementation of the new and innovative professional development they have newly acquired. Often times, teachers are left to interpret their new learnings and unintentionally execute these new strategies ineffectively. This is where the need for model teaching comes in. Model teaching is more than just a visual representation of what the teaching strategy should look like. Model teaching allows the teachers to observe and then implement what they have seen so that they can develop and learn these new strategies themselves.

Benchmarks help to set measurable standards for learning and how to assess the learning. Benchmarks not only measure where your school is in terms of other schools, they are also a useful tool that allows you to reflect on how to improve classroom instruction and which strategies might be more appropriate.

Pacing Calendar

A pacing calendar can ensure the calibration of the standards that are being taught across all grade levels, much like a scope and sequence. ESL

As classrooms across the United States become even more diverse, it is incumbent upon school districts to provide support to its teachers so that English Language Learners meet their full academic potential.  There are different models of ESL support that a school can offer- pull out, inclusion, team teaching. We specialize in assisting schools to design an ESL program that is centered around factors such as curriculum coordination, social integration/inclusion, resources and teacher development. We offer coaching around the design of these programs or support around existing ESL programs that are in need of training around best practices to support English Language Learners.
