Data Breakdown
School teams are recognizing the importance of data and how it can be used for school improvement purposes and assessing student learning on a school-wide basis. Creating a culture of continuous improvement begins with being able to not just read data, but the ability to develop a plan in response to the data. We have identified a common trend. Many schools know how to assess their students, but are not well-versed in what to do with the data.

Data breakdown can help both teachers and administrators answer important questions such as, “Which students need the most support?”, “Is this curriculum effective?” “Which students are mastering reading/math standards and why?”. Answers to these questions can bring clarity to classroom teachers and administrators alike.
Model Teaching
One of the greatest challenges new and seasoned teachers face is the classroom implementation of the new and innovative professional development they have newly acquired. Often times, teachers are left to interpret their new learnings and unintentionally execute these new strategies ineffectively. This is where the need for model teaching comes in. Model teaching is more than just a visual representation of what the teaching strategy should look like. Model teaching allows the teachers to observe and then implement what they have seen so that they can develop and learn these new strategies themselves.

Creating Benchmarks
Benchmarks exist to measure progress towards performance with the standards. Creating the proper benchmark can be one of the greatest instructional aids that a school can design to help define expectations and to help monitor students’ yearly progress. Benchmarks help to set measurable standards for learning and how to assess the learning. Benchmarks not only measure where your school is in terms of other schools, they are also a useful tool that allows you to reflect on how to improve classroom instruction and which strategies might be more appropriate.
Our team of educational experts help schools to create benchmarks that will help your team monitor its progress towards your goals, giving you valuable data from which to make meaningful and intentional decisions.
Pacing Calendar
A pacing calendar can ensure the calibration of the standards that are being taught across all grade levels, much like a scope and sequence. However, school districts may not have their pacing guides aligned to have all standards taught before the spring state test. Another important characteristic of pacing guides is that they must be aligned with benchmarks so that progress is monitored. An effective pacing guide does not just set the pace, it sets a standard for an effective curriculum that contains resources that help teachers do what’s important- teach.
Whether it is analyzing your current pacing guide or developing one, the team at Julie White educational consulting will assist your school’s team to ensure that good instruction is at its center and that high standards are consistent throughout all grade levels.
